Pedestrian Injured by Possible Drunk Driver in Corpus Christi

A 59 year old man sustained a serious injury to his leg after being hit by a possible drunk driver around 8:15 am yesterday morning.  The pedestrian was walking across Ayers St. in Corpus Christi, Tx when the driver of a black Volvo hit a utility pole and then hit the man.

The pedestrian was rushed to the emergency room of a local hospital immediately after the accident for medical treatment.  A witness to the incident thought the driver may have been asleep at the wheel as it appeared his head was titled back on the headrest.

According to police, the 21 year old driver Joseph Maldonado was arrested due to suspicion of driving his vehicle under the influence and causing injury to the pedestrian.  He will be charged with Intoxication Assault and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.  Of course, Mr. Maldonado is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
