Why You Should Purchase PIP and UM Auto Insurance Coverage

If you have not recently reviewed what type of automobile insurance coverage you have on your automobile policy, now is a great time to check to make sure not only that you have adequate liability coverage in the unforunate event that you cause an automobile accident and injure someone, but also to protect yourself and your family members by ensuring that you have adequate Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage ("UM") and Personal Injury Protection Coverage ("PIP") in the event that another driver causes a car accident and you or your family members are injured.

Dallas County, Texas has one of the largest percentages of uninsured motor vehicle drivers in the State of Texas at almost 15 percent.  This number is much better than one year ago when the percentage of uninsured drivers in Dallas County, Texas was 24 percent, but it is still too high.  Factor in the number of drivers who carry the minimum amount of liability coverage and a much larger percentage of drivers are not adequately insured to cover someone's damages who suffers serious personal injury due to a motor vehicle accident.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

You should look at your automobile insurance policy and make sure that you carry Uninsured Motorist Coverage and Underinsured Motorist Coverage.  Uninsured motorist coverage provides insurance coverage to you if you suffer personal injury due to the fault of a driver who does not have insurance.  If you are hit by an uninsured motorist and you suffer serious bodily injury, your uninsured motorist coverage may be the only way to obtain compensation for your damages.

Underinsured motorist coverage provides coverage to you for personal injury caused by the fault of another driver who does not have an adequate amount of insurance to cover your damages associated with your injuries.  For example, if your claim for personal injury damages would exceed the full policy limit of coverage that the adverse driver carries on his automobile insurance policy, then your own automobile insurance carrier becomes responsible to pay for some of your damages if you carry Underinsured Motorist Coverage.

If you need to file a claim for Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist Coverage, I strongly advise you to hire an experienced personal injury lawyer to represent you with respect to the claim.  Without an experienced attorney to assist you, many insurance companies attempt to underpay these claims and some flat out deny such claims.  If you have suffered serious personal injury in an automobile accident, you need to hire an experienced attorney to assist you, such as an attorney who is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law.

Personal Injury Protection Coverage

You should also carry Personal Injury Protection Coverage on your automobile insurance policy.  Such coverage is paid by your insurance carrier in the event that you are injured in an automobile accident to help you pay for some of your medical bills.  The cost of the coverage is generally not very expensive and I have seen the amount of coverage generally at $2,500, $5,000, or $10,000.

UM Coverage and PIP Coverage are very valuable to protect you and your family in the tragic circumstance involving an automobile accident.  If you do not carry the coverage, I would recommend that you call your automobile insurance carrier today and ask for premium quotes to add the coverage to your policy and obtain quotes for the various dollar amounts your carrier sells for each coverage.  If you or your family members suffer serious personal injury due to an automobile accident in Dallas County, Texas, you will be glad you have the coverage.

If you have suffered serious personal injury or you have lost a loved one due to wrongful death in a car accident, trucking accident, eighteen wheeler accident, or motorcycle accident, call Corpus Christi Tx accident and personal injury lawyer Sheadyn R. Damages Recoverable in a Texas Personal Injury Lawsuit

Whether you have suffered serious personal injury in an automobile accident, motor vehicle accident, trucking accident, eighteen wheeler accident, motorcycle accident, hit by a drunk driver, injured by a defective product, or by a dangerous premises condition, the goal of any lawsuit is to attempt to compensate the injured party for the damages incurred.  Evidence concerning damages in Texas personal injury cases must be thoroughly presented with competent and admissible evidence in order to ensure the injured client is fairly compensated.  If you have been seriously injured in an accident, you will need an experienced personal injury trial attorney to properly prepare your case for trial and present the evidence to the Court and jury.

When I try a case in Court, I tell the jury the absolute truth.  I tell the jury that my client would rather go back to the day before the accident and have his or her health back, as opposed to any amount of money.  Unfortunately, such a request is not possible.  Therefore, monetary damages is the only possible way we have to attempt to provide some type of compensation to seriously injured victims for the terrible and tragic damages sustained in accidents which should have not occurred but for the negligence of the wrongful party.

Common types of recoverable damages in Texas personal injury lawsuits include the following:

Work Related Accidents Still Causing Risks to American Workers

According to data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration ("OSHA"), 4,690 workers were killed on the job in 2010 — more than 90 a week or nearly 13 deaths every day.

"Every day in America, 13 people go to work and never come home. Every year in America, nearly 4 million people suffer a workplace injury from which some may never recover. These are preventable tragedies that disable our workers, devastate our families, and damage our economy. American workers are not looking for a handout or a free lunch. They are looking for a good day's pay for a hard day's work. They just want to go to work, provide for their families, and get home in one piece."
– Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, Workers Memorial Day speech April 26, 2012

Construction's "Fatal Four"

Approximately 19 percent of the worker fatalities in private industry in calendar year 2010 were in construction. The leading causes of worker deaths on construction sites were (1) falls, (2) electrocution, (3) struck by object, and (4) caught-in/between. These "Fatal Four" were responsible for approximately 56% of construction worker deaths in 2010. Eliminating these risks could save 437 workers' lives in America every year.
